Iraq Grants Iranian Airlines Permission for 40 Daily Najaf Flights

The Iraqi government has announced that Iranian airlines will be allowed to operate a combined total of 40 daily flights to Najaf International Airport. The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office said the decision followed Washington’s approval of a requested exemption from US sanctions. Mahan Air, however, was excluded from the arrangement.

Flights between Iran and Iraq had recently been suspended because of US sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector. The new arrangement allows Iranian airlines to operate a total of 40 daily flights to and from Najaf. Iraqi authorities said the decision is mainly meant to make travel easier for passengers and pilgrims, as well as for people traveling for healthcare, tourism, and education.
